K03 GTI k04 upgrade
« on: June 28, 2016, 03:26:56 pm »
Afternoon all.

Ive managed to source a cheap k04 turbo from an ed30 so am looking at doing the k04 upgrade to my car. Currently l have an AXX engine and all the mods, bar intercooler, to go Stage 2+.

Im not sure about installing the components, is it best to collect them all first and get them fitted in one go, or are some bits able to be fitted before others?

Also where can l source the wiring loom for the DV relocation?

Thanks in advance.

Ben.

Currently going through the same process.

I fitted the D.V relocation at the same time as my S3/golf r intercooler and airtec twincooler while everything was apart.

Takes an easy couple of hours and is simple to do.

For the wiring, I bought repair loom from vw and extended the loom and wrapped it in loom tape, to make it a little more OEM looking

Seriously considering doing the ko4 conversion on my stage 2+ ko3 BWA.

Can anyone tell me if it is worth it/ how good it is? Also need to consider reliability?

Thanks

Maybe run it on k03 injectors at reduced power.

I wouldn't want a half-done k04 conversion though. Good flow equals safer power on the axx/bwa.

Can you explain why poor flow could mean unsafe power?

A lot of the parts can be upgraded from OEM to aftermarket as you go on.

For example, the plastic boost pipes for the throttle body and turbo outlet can be upgraded to the bigger uprated versions,

the intake to DV can be changed for the silicone type etc.

So yes you will need pretty much all in the picture but you don't really need to buy OEM everything.

The DV loom can be extended from your current loom, which runs through the coil packs. be sure that when youy get it fitted to have either a base map loaded on or don't drive the car hard at all. may be a good idea to disconnect the n75 (OEM boost controller) to stop blowing ish up

Sorry, I missed this. Without going on and on, in short the bwa and axx have higher compression ratios than k04 engines. Too little flow (post turbo especially) means high EGTs.
