Rough idle help
« on: March 25, 2016, 06:00:42 pm »
Hi all
Just after a bit of help
My ed30 is chugging at idle, then revving upto about 1500 then chugging
I plugged it into my mates doodar and it said p0171 or something to do with the maf sensor
Said it cud also be a leak or plugs wen i googled it
I idled my car, and unplugged the maf, top left of engine i think its the maf ? Ha
And when i unplugged the connector the engine revved to about 1200 and fluctuated between 1000 and 1200 but didnt chug
Ther was a definate difference , but does that mean its deffo the maf thats buggered?
They pretty expensive so just wanna check before i buy one
Thanks for any help
Pete

Do you have stock PCV valve. May be worth checking quick way is by pulling the dipstick when at idle if it idles worse then it's probably not the PCV but if it makes no difference then the PCV may be a possibility .

Have you got an aftermarket air filter or induction ? if so could be possible that the maf is dirty, before replacing  the maf try cleaning it with some maf cleaner. I use this myself and for a few quid its worth trying.

If i pull dipstick out or oil cap off the engine runs worse
When i first start the car it seems to run almost fine unless i pull the dipstick out
After the car is warmed up the chugging and revving is alot worse when idling but when moving the car seems fine

Standard air filter
Wots the chance of it getting dirty with a standard one?
If i try to clean it do i just clean the whole thing or spray in the little holes or wot?
Cheers

Hey! what ended up being the solution to your problem? Was it MAF related? Did the problem come back?
I'm going through something similar..

Thanks in advance mate.  :jumpmove:
