Ive had a Golf R on test for 24 hours and was very impressed on pretty much all aspects. Obviously being a standard car the outright pace fell slightly short of my mapped Edition 30 not that a stage 1 remap would remedy that but the chassis from the factory with ACC was sublime on the 'road' especially in wet Britain.

I drove the RS3 last year and concur that sound was superb and reminiscent of days gone by with the old 20v Quattro. I didn't and couldn't fully exploit it 8-10th degree handling with the salesman sat beside but it was a special place to be and as previously mentioned there aern"t many around. The R represents great value but I fear that many thousands will be lost over a 3-4 year period when I may want to change and get a MK8.

The other car that really interests me is the BMW M2 now sold out for this years paltry allocation and most of next years UK has also gone
I'd like to see it in the flesh first but the RWD option on wet UK roads would surely hamper ones progress on our roads.....great in the dry but with all of that torque to the rear one could easily get in trouble.

Time to take stock but the RS3,is hovering on used R8 values but is far more practical and I see it as perhaps a better financial decision if one can stomach the extra outlay.

R8 all the way ! :driver:

Unfortunately she that has to be obeyed has other ideas!! Plus I have grandchildren on the way

My local dealer had a Crystal Panther black RS3 with a pretty high spec one in their dealer with deal to be done on it...unfortunately it was a whooping £52k

Nice car but is it worth another £19K over the R although my optioned R thru Carwow worked out at £33k

Dealer offered me £1000 off thei £52k showroom price! No doubt it will sell.

No deal there then.

Facelift model out in 3 months but when you start at £41k with only few options like mag ride super sport seats comfort pack on standard fairly boring wheels IMO still a £45k car

I may plump for the R or S3 unless I wait another 12 months for a used RS3

RS3 no doubt!

Had the pleasure of a drive in one recently, sounds amazing and the pops and bangs in dynamic mode are worth the cost alone  :happy2:

The RS3 gets ripped to shreds on many YouTube reviews, poor steering feel and understeer etc.. compared to the 7R. You pays your money an all that!

Unfortunately lots of 7Rs gone missing too. Any high-end VAG motor is susceptible. Likely the new Focus RS will attract the wrong type of attention too  :sad1:
