Bag of spanners noise from rear
« on: April 04, 2016, 06:35:26 pm »
After driving enthusiastically today and going over a large hump on the road the rear end of the car is knocking and sounding like a bag of spanners on slight bumps.

Exhaust seems fine, any ideas?

Also check heat shield above the back box. Every one of them have come loose on me on all 5 mk5 golfs I've owned.

Got my local mechanic to inspect it today and it has a snapped nearside front coil spring. I could have sworn the noise was coming from the rear! I guess they were in need of being replaced anyway seeing as it only took a large hump in the road to break it.
