Front fog confusion
« on: April 07, 2016, 12:43:32 pm »
Fully prepared to take the 'f'in noob' responses if warranted but I promise I have searched- manual, Google, and 28 pages of results in here, with no joy so here goes....

Just changed the bulbs on the front fogs figuring the most obvious solution was likely the best but- how do I turn them on?

My switch looks like this so only one 'click' outwards which turns on the rear only, I have tried every setting on the switch & main beams and nothing turns the fronts on.

Has the switch been replaced perhaps and needs changed back?

Odd. You don't have the symbol for front fog lights. Usually it's a double pull towards you. Is it an import?

Yeah usually another symbol on bottom left side of the dial .... not sure why you don't have it

Thanks for the replies- at least gives me some comfort that I'm not being an idiot!
It was originally bought from a main dealer here in NI so not an import afaik.
The manual shows the switch with the two symbols that's why I wondered if maybe the switch might have been replaced.

Yeah that's what the picture in the manual looks like- they are wired in so its not as if they are dummy lights just there for looks

See them on eBay for fairly cheap and looks like an idiot proof job to change so might just give it a try!

Has your car had fog lights fitted as an after thought and maybe not wired in ? Or maybe there's another switch for them somewhere

Well there are definitely wires attached to the bulbs I have just changed so I don't think they have been fitted just for show- have looked for another switch as well and can't see one anywhere.
Kind of glad I'm not the only one puzzled by this!

Do you have a mate near by with a golf (or probably lots of different vdubs use the same switch) that you could try that has both fog options?
Literally less than a 5 minute job to swap them over, test and swap back again.

Sadly the switch arrived just as my love affair with this particular mk5 draws to an end- a sorry tale I will tell once all is resolved and the dust settles!
Already on the lookout for my next one....
