Diy disaster
« on: June 05, 2016, 05:54:27 pm »
Someone please help before I loose my marbles!
I have an rns510 fitted and yesterday I fitted a Bluetooth unit and harness which I bought from this forum,
During the instal the cars battery died so I got a new one.
Yesterday the radio worked fine, I could recieve and make calls.

Today, the polar fis doesn't work, though I never checked it yesterday so maybe it's been off since then
The volume buttons don't work on the mfsw
The radio turns its self off after 30 minutes
And you have to turn it off when leaving car,
Can't connect via Bluetooth for music or calls

Also I had the glovebox out and have a fault on dash from this

Have the gremlins took up residency in my car?
Can I sort out these issues
Can anyone shed any light??

1st thing I'd do was to disconnect the battery again. What BT module did you fit, btw? I have that in my Ed. 30 and the Polar BT/Battery module to make the BT info to show in the instrument cluster.

For now, my guess is your PolarFIS module is blocked so the info doesn't reach the CAN correctly. It needs resetting and that can be done by disconnecting the battery. You may as well check if you have the latest firmware installed and update it if needed.

Well I woke to a flat battery this morning, the head unit must be drawing power all the time even with ignition off
I'll be home in an hour so I'll try disconnecting battery again

I've fitted a 7p6 kit
Got no display from polar fis, head unit sounds like it's running constantly even when turned off,
Just got home disconnected battery will see what happens in ten minutes.
The main thing I need sorting is the head unit running constantly and draining battery

You might need to correctly code the BT module as well. Something is making a conflict with the CAN gateway.

If the car has a RNS-510 fitted from factory like mine had it has a CAN gateway L, that is new enough to handle the BT module and avoid the battery drain problem.

If the PolarFIS isn't showing in the cluster I'd disconnect it and see if everything else works well without it. The BT module has to be coded to remove the not correctly coded error on the VCDS scan.
