Who has installed a rear camera?
« on: April 09, 2016, 06:14:22 pm »
I have a reverse wire from the headunit which i to the reversing light in the tailgate. But by the looks of it using a multimeter it converts from +12v to ground from ignition to engine running. So it doesn't work.

Am thinking of wiring it to a +ve wire and putting in a manual rocker type switch. Ie press switch then headunit goes to rear camera view.

How has anyone else done it?

I assume it's not an RNS-510 and an OEM camera? If you are a bit more specific you might get more replies  :happy2:

Over the top mod list ;o)

Normally in Pioneer head units you can change the input to either +12v or 0v that activates the head unit. Should be in settings.

Your wiring doesn't sound right to me?

I took the reverse wire from the back of my head unit and ran it down the car (along with the phone cable for the video signal). Positive from the camera wired to this, then earth from the camera just wired to the car body.

No. The camera has 12v and Earth to power it then a composite for video. This all works fine. However when you select reverse I need the stereo to automatically change to screen to the rear view image from the camera.

Not seen that. If so that would be handy!!

So where is your camera getting 12v from?

The reverse wire on my head unit sends out +12v when it gets a reverse signal from CANBUS.

Ok. Yours is a canbus. Mine is just a pioneer headunit. The reverse wire receives a signal which then tells the headunit to switch to the camera view once it receives that signal. Similar to a remote wire. The camera remains on with an ignition wire from the boot 12v socket.
