Tyre suggestions
« on: April 12, 2016, 12:50:47 pm »
Hello, Any suggestions as to 4 new tyre replacements - looking at branded without costing huge sums, mainly gentle (ish), back road driving with occasional long motorway jaunts.

Thank you.

You're going to be given the following options countless times:

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 3
Pirelli P-Zero
Michelin Pilot Supersport 4

They are all more or less the same price +- £10 depending on where you get them and the deals they have at the minute.

I usually save the tab and check back once a month, when the price drops on any of them I buy in bulk which I did 3 months ago picking up 4 x Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 3 at a great price.

That's because the premium choices are very limited compared to mid-range and budget choices, and you forgot Continental.  The Sport Contact 6 is apparently a superb tyre, but not yet available in 18" & 17".

Tried the F1s quite a few times now on different cars and nah, I'm done with them.  Very over rated tyres.

The PilotSport4 is leagues ahead of it, in every respect.

Got to agree with you, wouldn't touch goodyear again, I've used Conti Sport Contact on just about everything I've had, I was absolutely crazy to even try anything else, great handling, good wear, great value for money!

Was that fitted and balanced for all 4 with disposal of the old tyres?
Any chance of a link to the site?  :happy2:

I'd second this. Running the exact same tyres on my car and they're excellent.

Been running Vredestein tyres for years going back to my Corrado days.

I'm always sceptical when people say "As good as X, but cheaper".   What evidence do you have to back that up?   Not saying Vredestein are bad tyres, but I seriously doubt they are in the same league as Michelin's, Conti's or Pirelli's best.  Mich, Conti & Pirelli are OEM fitment on a lot of top end cars.  Never seen a Vredestein specified as factory fit on a 911 GT3 for example.

If you like them, fair enough, tyres are subjective.  I just don't get along with blanket statements that cheap things are as good or better than expensive things without some kind of data to back it up, but that's just me

Can't believe Michelin Pilot Super Sports haven't been mentioned. Stretch your budget a tiny bit. They're mega.

They're rated even higher as a sports tyres so they won't be as good in the wet and won't last as much. It's like comparing the Michelin Sports Pilot Cup 2 and MPSS.

They're very good in the wet. Just a bit weak at colder temps. PS4 do sound a good all-rounder though.
