Time to add to the fold
« on: April 13, 2016, 01:23:30 pm »
Having had a few VW's in my youth, including a Polo, Scirocco GTII and an Anniversary MkIV Golf, I am now looking to purchase a MkV GTi to keep my MkII GTi company.
I am interested in some more details of the White ED30 replica in Leicester if the owner still has it for sale. Unfortunately I cannot contact him until I have reached 10 posts.
So, while I wait for my post count to rise, what should I look for?
I gather the 7 spd DSG is better than the 6spd- Is this true?
Apparently the later MkV's are better than the earlier ones? If true, is this 2007 onwards?
Is there an average life expectancy for the turbo's, manual gearbox's/clutches?
How long will a DSG last, I would imagine the replacement of one of those is costly.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I am looking to buy one over the next month, so if anyone else knows of a 5 door that might be of interest, I'd love to hear.
