Another 'what's it worth' - Edition 30

Looking for guidance on what my car may be worth...

1 owner from new (me)
FSH
9 months MOT (no advisories)

It had a new (standard) clutch fitted last year along with brake pads and discs all round. Cambelt was done at 80k.

Factory options:
Sunroof
Xenons
RCD 500 with sound pack, 10 speakers and front-loading 6 CD player
Winter pack
Armrest
Multifunction steering wheel with Highline

Dealer fit options:
Cruise control

Self-fitted options:
iPod connectivity in armrest
Parrot handsfree kit

Modifications:
REVO Stage 1 with SPS switch

Unmarked condition on the inside. Age/mileage related marks on the outside. Excellent condition overall.

Have a look on the auto trader car valuation thing as it gives an average of prices of what cars sold for with your milage.

I wouldn't go with it 100% but it gives you a good idea as updated daily apparently.

Tough one. White ones always command a premium. A white with xenon lights even more so.

I'd say 9k even with that mileage.

The arm rest is an option?!

Mine is the exact same spec but black and RNS510 instead of RCD, and I paid £9K for it 18 months ago, with 73K on it, currently on 98K.   Mine also benefits from a custom map, Helix clutch and WALK.

I'd advertise mine for £8.5K personally and take 8 for it, because someone will always find something nit picky to barter on.

Thanks for the replies. Slightly less than what I thought but not too bad. I know it's higher mileage than a lot of cars of the same age, but it's not excessive IMO as it's about average for it's age.

On the Edition 30, yes. It was standard on the Pirelli.

If it were DSG I would've been very interested. Usually that mileage would put me off, but with one owner it wouldn't concern me too much. What's next?

Why are people talking as if 110k is high? It's bang on average for the age of the car.
It's not like the 80s anymore, a car doesn't self combust when it hits 100k!
Personally I'd rather buy one with a few miles on the clock that's had some big bits replaced, if you buy a low mileage car you've got it all to look forward to. 110k wouldn't bother me in the slightest

Thanks! It's over 8 years old so 110k is an average of 13-14,000 a year.

Sadly, very few people in the UK share your views on mileage.  In America, a Golf with 200K on it is considered average.  Only in this country do I (still) hear comments from the motoring ignorant, like - "It doesn't sound right" when taking an engine past 3000rpm and "I really need to sell my car soon as it's nearly done 60K".   Such ignorance does work to the buyer's advantage in this country though, especially with high performance saloons

Imho there are down sides to buying a high miler unless it has full history and paper work to match.
I bought a 100k tt with f all history but was immaculate in condition. I replaced t belt kit and water pump within weeks of buying it and it was a dream car with only one issue. rev counter stooped working so I repaired that with a donor dash pod stepper motor and all was well for another 15k miles and then it needed a clutch kit wish bone bushes and temp sensor.
a few k later I replaced full suspension with adjustable forge bars rear clutch DMF concentric and master cylinders all front and rear trailing arms and wishbone bushes top mounts bearings and 20k later wheel bearings front and rear to be safe. Front drive shafts by mistake thinking they were damaged but it was bearing.

All depends on the owner and how much they looked after the car again imho.

sold it @149k miles for £2000 then sold the mods off separately.

True.  Every car has it's weak spots (cluster pods on the TT for example!) and in all honesty, that's down to the buyer to do their homework before purchase and barter accordingly.   For example, I was put off buying an E39 M5 because of their common problems.  I could easily have bought one blind and had a riot with it, but a few K later it could have cost me £1000s!

And with GTIs, some googling will reveal - potentially high oil consumption, blocked injectors, cam chain tensioners, HPFP followers, subframe creaking, split DVs, broken PCVs, DSG mechatronic issues etc etc.   Not all cars suffer with this stuff, but it's good to do your homework to find the right car.   The best cars will have paperwork demonstrating these things have been addressed and are worth paying the extra for imo.
