Caliper Painting?
« on: January 12, 2010, 10:47:12 pm »
Well pretty soon I will have some nice S3 front brakes in Black, and I was wondering if it would be possible to paint the standard rear calipers Black while they are still on the car? Or is it possible/practical to remove the rear caliper from the disc without disconnecting the brake line, thus making it easier to paint? (I would make sure the caliper didn't hang from its brake line)
I suppose at a push I could get away with just painting the front half of the calipers black and leave the back half red???  :ashamed: What do you think?

Also do I need a special Caliper paint? or will normal high temp paint do the job?

Any tips would be really appreciated

Get your S3 brakes painted red.

I am fitting fronts and rears so am keeping them black.

you can paint them on the car, i have used hammerite smooth in the past and its been fine, and i have used proper caliper paint and that was fine too  :happy2:, just clean them properly first and use a wire brush to rough them up a bit

Thanks Blue  :happy2:

Did you paint them another colour mate? And did you paint the whole caliper? I'm just wondering if it will be easier to paint the rears black, or the fronts red?

Thanks Oli, I'll do that mate  :happy2: I suppose it will look more original in red too. I would get the calipers painted before fitting them but I am traveling a fair distance to get these and they will be fitted when I get there. So I will have to paint em when I get back.

Does anyone know where I can get the High temp paint in the correct red? I know most blood/crimson reds will be a near match, but if anyone knows of a specific product for the job I would appreciate it! .....(do halfords do anything like it?)  :ashamed:

Also is it better to get a spray or brush-on?

This looks quite a good kit. Quite expensive though. Anyone used it with good results?
