The "usual" mods

Hi all, after searching for a while I have bought a 2005, grey, 5 door GTI. Love it.

Going in for Cambelt, tensioners and water pump Friday as it is due.

Wandering what people do for the "usual" mods. I was thinking maybe a cat back only exhaust just for a little more noise. Any "normal" exhausts that people go for? Do people keep the dual exit or go single, I think I would prefer a single exit.

Xenons weren't on the car, can they be swapped over?

Not sure what else :)

R-Tech are remappers, widely regarded as the best in the business, based in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Just did a search and read some threads.
Impressive stuff, my car feels pokey as it is, how would you know of it has had a remap already?

Rolling Road is your best bet.

These cars deliver around 200bhp stock, so anything around 240-250bhp will indicate a Stage 1 map


Full VCDS Hex + Can.

£479 though VW. Fixed price which is supported by a bit of research.

It was last done 40,000 miles and at 88,000 now so doing for peace of mind.

I'd trust a good independent over a dealer. Where in the country are you? I'm sure someone on here can recommend a garage. I know a couple of good ones in Surrey.

As for other mods, I've only had my GTI for a couple of weeks and have already got it booked in with R-Tech. From having a good read on this forum it seems like a no-brainer!

I'm also going to try and remove the pre-cat and put a panel filter in before my appointment with them on 11th May.

If you were in west Yorkshire. I'd recommend a garage who I always use. He's done timing belts on Audi S3, Audi TT, Leon FR TFSI and Golf GTI MK5.

Labour charge is around £120-£140 and parts were £115 I think.

I'm also going to try and remove the pre-cat and put a panel filter in before my appointment with them on 11th May.

I got the pre cat done and pipercross panel filter fitted beforehand too.
Had inlet valves cleaned, new plugs, PCV, DV and millers 5/40 oil & flilter
Was 213 brake on Rtec rolling road before stage 1 and 249 after. Drives so much better, picks up really quickly.
