My red gti... Few mods done with pics.
« on: August 09, 2015, 05:14:20 pm »
My tornado red dsg.
63k with a good selection of extras.
After wash and wax

Then the obligatory coilovers arrived.
Went for fk's as I've always found them to give a good ride with advantages of going extra low if needed.

Then came my favourite day... Drop day!

really impressed with how forgiving the mk5 is to lower.

Sits nice and clears all speed bumps and most importantly I can get up my drive without using lengths of timbre like I used to with my last couple audi's  :happy2:
then removed from badge and sprayed in gloss black.

Then a bit of cleaning. Nothing too serious just thought grill was looking more grey than black.

After some auto glym bumper care.

Then I fancied an intake, just didn't fancy spending 270 quid on a hard pipe and filter kit. So decided to source some bits and put something together.
Ended up with an oversized hose and pipe set up by mtc.

Wheels are on the agenda, got something a bit different in mind. Will be running some stretch as I love a bit of tuck with an aggressive stance. Thanks for positive comment  :happy2:

Thanks mate! It's typical when your car hunting, the full package never shows up when you want it too, I held on for a few months to find a 5 door red dsg with the toys I wanted on it. Viewed 3 rough ones with higher miles before finding this one. The trim gel works well, I re coat every month or 2 to keep it glossy looking.

After the intake was ordered I needed a filter, spoke to a guy at camskill about ordering an itg filter, unfortunately they had nothing big enough to fit the 90mm neck diameter of my intake. The chap rang itg direct who said they could make one up but give me a little tip off for something very similar in quality but a fraction of the cost. So after this advice i purchased a ramair foam filter, bargain price and fantastic quality.
Fitted it one night after work, bit tricky getting the original pipe work off as space is limited near the turbo and them bloody clips were not playing ball!

Engine bay needs a good gunking next week so please excuse the grime aha!
The filter just tucks enough to close the bonnet.
Really happy with the set up and it owes me a lot less than most kits cost. Still got my heat shield to fit though. Job for next week.

Interior needs a few odds and ends as well. Fitted a mk6 light switch as original had peeled, same as most interior parts really. Not sure why? Still got a few more buttons and switches to replace to freshen up. Took my stereo fascia, ash tray lid and gear shift surround off and vinyl wrapped them in gloss black... Looked well... For an hour!! Then it all started to come unstuck so got stressed and pulled it all off. Decided to rub it down and primer it, then a few coats of spray paint. Turned out well considering it cost less than a tenner in material.

Need to get the sat nav screen bought at some point, the buttons on my stereo look terrible. Got a few more exterior parts to buy first though.

15mm hubcentric fk spacers added on the rear.

Drivers side sits about 3/4mm further out so had some slight rubbing on my side when I first drove it but was only arch liner and very minimal, it's stopped now though so all is good :happy2: Natural camber from lowering has tucked it just enough. May throw a set of 5mm's on front when I've removed inside arch screw. Hoping I'll be allowed new wheels at some point in the next few months, depends if the misses will let me haha!
But it's sit a bit wider for now anyway.

How do you find the FK's for everyday driving? Looking at a set for mine and despite various car/Coilovers in the past I've never had FK's.

Cheers
