On a K03 you'd see a small benefit changing to IK24's in terms of idling, but there wouldn't be much in it at the top end in performance unless you are running a HPFP. On a K04 I believe that even on a remap only modded car you would see a benefit from the IK24's :happy2:

My car is coming to its 30K service interval...I think VW normally change the spark plugs during that service.

I might as well use the opportunity to put some of these IK24s that have been mentioned here. 
Not entirely sure what an IK24 spark plug is...what do I need to look on the packaging, or where can I source these online?

Euro car parts sell them.

Denso Iridium Power IK24-5311

I think Euro car parts part number is 408 77 5420 according to the box in front of me

On the base of the box it says...

IK24#4
5311#4

Barcode part number is.....0  42511 53114  7

Before I order a set someone has told me that there are spark plugs with 4 tips.   :surprised:

Apparently they are used in the Porsche turbos...is this horse sh*t...or is there an element of truth to this, in which has anyone come across a set of these for our cars?

the bosche ones fitted to mine use 4 tips, doubt that would have anything to do with the heat setting though. link in post #1 for them

Do you have a porsche, or are the 4 tips fitted to your GTi?

I can't seem to find the 4 tip ones in the the links in the first post here.

Also, if they don't help with the heat - what do they improve?

I've just spoken with JKM about the spark plug subject and they advise that OEM plugs are absolutely good for anything up to Stage3 on the K03 2.0T FSI. K04 cars may benefit if modified.

Simon, i fitted the iridium and got them from JKM. Can't remember how much at the time. They have 30k on them now and run perfect.
2008 Octavia vRS K04'd , Forge twintercooler, Evoms, Autotech uprated pump, full Milltek exhaust 324bhp on JKM's rollers ;-)

....Fair enough but I prefer not to experiment at all and JKM know my individual car extremely well, so I take their advice.

Being modified, I change my plugs every 20k miles anyway.

what are the sympotms of duff spark plugs.  Since fitting my cat back and new bosch plugs there has been a slight dip at 5000RPM. might just swap the plugs and see if that helps.

if there was a leak on the exhaust would that potentially cause a drop at all

Ok, I'm a little confused...  Opie Oils suggest the Denso VK20Y when I put my car details in... the euro parts gives me a Denso with the part number 408775350 - but not model no.  Is this the correct one?


I guess the IK variants are Iridium and the VK variants are LongLife Iridiums....  so which ones should I be going for?

They should easily last 30k miles, but I normally replace mine every 20k. I'm at 23.5k and the car is now almost 3yrs old.
