Question...
The NGK irdium plugs recommended by JKM are one grade cooler than standard ,where as the Densos recommended for stage2+ ed30s like mine are supposed to be 2 grades cooler.
Is one really better than the other ?

Not much in it really.

Roughly speaking for every 70bhp the car increases in performance you should go 1 step colder with the plugs. So a stock car is 227bhp and a stage 1 is around 290-300bhp, so should go 1 step colder. A stage 2+ car will be anywhere between 340bhp and 370bhp and so should go 1-2steps colder with plugs.....simple :smiley:

The ones I mentioned earlier. IK24's!!!!!!!!

The long life ones aren't even a colder rating by the looks of it.

Cheers Hurdy... so how long do the IK24s last for?

Spoke to Opie oils... and the situation is as follows:

Denso Iridium need replacing after 50K
Denso Iridium Long Life need to be replaced after 100K

The thing exercising my mind now is that the IK24s have a gap of 0.4mm, whereas the VK20Ys have a gap 0f 0.8mm...

Will this impact the running of the car?

Personally, I change my plugs every 2 years regardless of mileage.
I think I'm taking comfort from the fact Densos are 2 grades cooler which presumably is a little cooler than the NGK plugs.

I've been running the IK24's now for around 3 months and they have been great. No lumpy idle, starts every time.

The gap isn't 0.4mm, it is the diameter of the tip :happy2:

Cheers Hurdy...it was Opie Oils who got me thinking as the IK24s don't come up when they tap in the GTi details.

Car is due for it's 30K service very soon... any updates/or further feedback on the IK24s before I take the plunge?
