Canbus Version for Mk5 Headunit Swap

1T0035680P is my RNS510. Im in the same position as you in needing to update my Canbus. TPS has came back with a part number of '7N0907530AKZ00', does it ring a bell with you? Would anyone know if it'll be fine with my RNS?

That CAN-BUS will work with your car and RNS-510. 7N0 is newer than necessary and easy to code accordingly to your car. You'll need VCDS to do it. On ebay 7N0 CAN-BUS are cheaper than on TPS, I bet.

Look around the For Sale section to check if someone is selling them atm.

You can get a 7N0 CAN-BUS for less than £50 on ebay. There are guides online. For that version is even easier than with late 1K0.

It depends on the RNS version as the newer ones can solve the battery drain issue with software tweaks.   I have the original CAN gateway in my ED30 and an RNS510 'Q' and I don't have battery drain problems.   Well, I left the car at Gatwick for 2 weeks and it fired right up when I got back 

Indeed the modified firmwares can solve the battery drain without upgrading the CAN Gateway in most cars. Just in a few cases that firmware tweak doesn't work.

I have just purchased a version C RNS 510 and changing the canbus on mine sounds like massive hassle, so if there is a way around the battery drain issue without upgrading the canbus that would be great.

If you search online for RNS-510 firmware, I'm sure you'll find many versions available. Josi is one of the RNS-510 gurus who has modified factory versions to be compatible with older radios and with the battery drain fix included (also VIM and secret menu  unlocked). It's not allowed to share in this forum the forums where you can get the firmwares.

Couple of people on here do a service for installing the software such as @Pashka and @Eddie-NL , I can do canbus change in about 10-15 minutes, although the first time it feels like an hour, but it's about as complicated as a radio swap.
Note the canbus in mine and the other car were both at the firewall the worst place lol

Yeah from what I've read mine is above the accelerator pedal and there's no way I'm getting to it with my shovel hands lol!
