My cars been keyed!
« on: May 03, 2016, 11:47:24 am »
Hello everyone, haven't been on here in a while and it pains me to say I'm not coming here today a happy man. An exes new boyfriend has took it upon himself to key my pride and joy.

My question is, I have a friend who has put me in touch with a local guy who does body repair. He swears by him and has all of his work done there. However, he says it's so cheap because he only does the part that's damaged as opposed to whole panels. I'm obviously a bit worried about it standing out as the car is diamond black Pearl.

Anyone else had experience like this can give advice?

Much appreciated all, thanks

Sorry to hear that mate. My new gti got keyed two weeks into ownership - across four panels! All down one side. I looked into it and everything said that it would need the panels spraying and blended  - 1£50 a panel. Id ask to see previous work. Perhaps its dependant on the depth of they key. How much is cheap?

Why are you paying? You know who it is. Call the police (on the non-emergency number), as that is criminal damage.

Depends how deep the scratches are, but the panel probably needs to be resprayed. Like everything in life, quality comes at a price.

That's a real bad thing to happen to anyone  :sad1:

Cheaper to probably pay the insurance excess as insurance always goes up anyway. Just a thought.

Hope all gets sorted out.

Just got the quote back at 160 quid which is unbelievably cheap. My mates had 3 of his cars done by the same guy and tbh I didn't even know his seat exeo had been crashed which I'm guessing is good.

The fella said it would be blended and that metallic blacks were in his opinion one of the easiest colours to do with white being the worst!

Surely it is worth a punt at 160?

If you've seen previous work and would be happy with that being on your car then I would say go for it.

Just make sure you are 100% happy with the job when you collect as there will be no going back after collection.

As said of you've seen his work before and its been good then well worth a punt at that price as a full job is going to cost much much more.

All he'll do is flatten down where the damage is and scotch pad the rest of the panal and blow the paint into it. simple for the guy who's doing it.

I suppose for 160 if it's good but not perfect, I could live with that until sell up time in a year or so. Then just respray for 500-600 before sale.

I've recently had my first child so 160 sounds a lot more tempting at the minute

Aye, It's hard enough already. Can't imagine how tiring it will be when he's older!
