It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Cheers. Came across your thread doing a little research. Think I have a knock that needs sorting.

Changed the glow plugs and rocker cover gasket today (68k miles) and started fine afterwards, the real test will be once it's sat over night and see if it starts better when it's cold and sat for a while.

While I had the rocker cover off then I checked the part number on the injectors and it ends 073T. I believe that the part numbers of the dodgy injectors ended 073D and 073M so it looks like mine have definitely been replaced under the recall. I had figured they had been done when I researched the history of the car when I bought it and contacted VWUK and they said there were no outstanding recalls for the car. Nice to be able to check properly though

Not a great image but you can see the end of the part number 073T:

Thanks @abz132,

I'll hopefully get some time to give the car a good clean, fit my new headlights (which I've had for ages and not got around to fitting ) and then get some pictures of it.

Car still didn't start first time this morning but fired up better than usual on the second try. My mpg also seems to have improved quite a bit on my last two drives, up by about 5 - 8 mpg on my usual trip from home to town and back.

I changed the fuel filter this morning (68k miles) as i'd not changed it since my oil in fuel contamination problem. Fuel looks like it should now so changed the filter and will see if that helps. If I continue to have this starting issue then it is possible that in tank fuel pump needs to be changed as the fuel contaminated with oil can stop them from working correctly. Will keep this updated as I do stuff though.

Changed over the headlights today to the genuine GTi ones I got from another forum member  :happy2:. They have the black inserts rather than all silver so I think they look a lot smarter.

Thank you  :drinking:

Going to order a few new screws for the bumper as they're a bit rusty, particularly the two screws that hold the centre of the bumper to the slam panel, you can just seen on in the last picture. Also going to get some new wheel arch liner screws as there are a couple missing or rusty.

Not much of an update but been feeling put to shame by @bonelorry... Only had about an hour and a half so it just got a good wash, wheels cleaned and then put some Gtechniq C2v3 to give it some protection until I have some more time to give it a right going over. Wheels are so easy to clean since I sealed them with Gtechniq C5 and EXO. Pleased with how it looks just now

Managed to get some things done on the golf that have been waiting a while! Massive thanks to my friend Murray for helping me out and letting me put the car up on his lift, made the job so much easier.

The car is going for it's MOT on Wednesday so wanted to give it a good check over and get a few little things done. So, today we fitted the sub-frame spacers with new bolts, the lower gearbox mount insert with new stretch bolt and changed one of my anti roll bar links that had a bit of play in it and was starting to clunk a bit.

The gearbox mount is a powerflex red version which is for the diesel, it has a little more flex in it than the one for the petrol cars so that it doesn't transfer too much vibration to the inside of the car.

A few pictures, anti roll bar link:

Really pleased to get these little jobs done. The gearbox mount insert has actually made a huge difference, There is hardly any slack in it now so it feels really tight and smooth coming on and off the throttle, there is no noticeable extra vibration inside the car at idle or any other speed and it just feels great, really worthwhile mod.

Just had the golf for a little run and the engine mount insert has made such an awesome improvement. It's so much smoother when changing gear and pulling away from junctions. Really pleased with it. I would highly recommend it to anyone, it's only £25 for it and took two minutes to change it.
