Great choice in the new motor BTW i loved my E46 M3, you will need to have deep pockets for the M modding game though.
the best MODs i done to the M3 were Eisenmann Race exhaust and i can recommend the HSD coilovers Brilliant, Upgrading your brakes should be top of the list though (if you like a track day or two)

a liitle list of things to watch out for.

Rough Diff (can some times be fixed with an updated oil) although many have required a new diff 2.5K
Seized caliper ( Very Common )
Watch out for cracked subframes ( reasonably Common and a 4-8K Fix )
Rust under the door catch cover.
Trailing arm bush ware, If fecked i would recommend upgrading to OEM CSL bushes With rouge engineering Bush limiters, this keeps OEM comfort with Poly ridgidity.

You are gong to love It mate, best car ever. I just found it to expensive to get it the way i wanted it, it easily could of absorbed 10k, roll in the GTI

Cheers for that gobbleplease, I've gathered most of that from reading the forums loosely, although didn't know about the door catch cover and seized calipers!! You'll probably see quite a few PM's coming your way in the future asking some questions!

No bother mate !

It cost me £350 from bmw to get the rust under the door catch / Pillar fixed, and honestly about 80% of them suffer from it,
you need to remove the plastic catch cover to see it unless it is really bad and you will probably see it with out removing the cover.

My one also had a seized caliper, but as it required pads and disks at the same time i took this oppertunity to upgrade to the larger CSL Disks ect, braided hoses, Performance fricton pads and SRF. Just look out for discoulouration on the calipers as this could indicate that it has seized previous and been repaired, which alot have been. This does not last long as new pistons are not available for this particular caliper and means that a lot of people just polish the piston and replace the seals, but this will only last a few months in the winter, as the rust just builds up quickly on the piston. I repaired mine twice and it only lasted a few months. Otherwise a caiper will cost you about £280.

apart from this the cars are pretty bompproof, but expensive to maintain, you will know this already though, the Lms are sweet too, I had the CSLs on wine but the car drives alot nicer with the OEM 18"ers, its just a pitty they look horrible though.
