Fans on after coolant flush
« on: May 06, 2016, 08:08:02 am »
Drained the coolant to replace the online thermostat on my 06 DSG. I refilled as much as I could and then started the engine and the coolant level sensor pinged as it sucked all the coolant in, filled with the remaining coolant and the light went out all is well.

Only problem is both fans run constantly now while driving and for 10 minutes after shutting off. There is enough G13 coolant in the system and monitoring the coolant temp on polarFIS it's heating up normally etc.

I cleared a EML this morning which was p0118 002 - Engine coolant temperature circuit to high and it hasn't reappeared. Any ideas?

Doh!! Forgot to plug the ECT back in! Just did it now and ran the car again but the fans are still running constantly with a 10 minute overrun??

Codes are cleared but it's still happening. I'm gonna chase the wiring from the sensor and see if it's all intake etc later

Other than that it could be the the temp sensors that have failed. we have two on the gti

Yeah I know this one is prone to failure but it seems a bit coincidental it happened as I flushed the coolant etc. I need to look at the fan switch too I think

If you have a multi tester you may as well check the feeds have power coming to them too. taking the connector off the coolant sensor should make the fans run continuously and when plugged back in should stop them from running.
