Headlights - Keep getting flashed at
« on: May 11, 2016, 09:31:46 am »
I keep getting flashed at during the night with my dipped beams which have a HID Kit installed by the previous owner, not too sure what they are but I believe they are 55W 8000K, I've been reading through the forum regarding this and I am not too sure what I should be doing if I am honest. Even my friends when I go driving about with says my dipped beams are too bright whenever I am behind him. Could someone tell what I should do about it, have a look at the picture below.

Take them out, chuck them in the bin, then fit regular bulbs

And why would you say that? The problem is I like the colour of the headlights

Because you have a cheap Chinese copy of Xenon headlights, that are not designed to work in a reflector type lense.

The reason you get flashed is because you have absolutely no beam pattern and might as well be driving with your main beams on, as that's how it will appear to other motorists. Take them off and bin them or buy some aftermarket projector type headlights instead.....

Or do it properly and buy genuine Xenon headlights and retrofit them to your car.

yes this.

If you buy Depo projectors you should be OK if they are aligned.

Planning to buy Depo headlights at the end of the month or beginning of next month, going to get Depo Projector Headlights. Should I keep the HID kit I have at the moment or get a different set of HID kit? If so could you recommend me some.

I'm assuming the Deop Headlamps are plug and play, the only issue would be to get Xenon- No Shutters coded in?

If there your headlights in the image there not Chinese fakes! They are genuine as it has the VW logo covering the dipped beam bulb. Mine had replica ones of yours on it when I bought it and they were similar but no VW logo.

The reason everyone is flashing you is because you can't really use HID's with standard headlights like these. Though you can now buy anti-glare kits which are supposed to work ok but I haven't ever read a review on them.

Ideally for HID kits you want projector style headlights (ie. Depo's) and they should work fine.

I changed my GTI reps to depo's but changing back to genuine GTI ones with good bulbs as tired so many HID kits and they all gother water in somewhere and stopped working. No matter how much tape etc I wrapped the connections in.

They give you rubber grommets to prevent any water seepage into the lights and you're meant to drill a 22mm hole into the rear lamp cover where the wiring go through and then the rubber grommet seals the hole.

Yeah I know but I'm talking about the ballast connections..
