R32 - For Sale Ireland WATCH OUT!!!
« on: May 12, 2016, 08:22:36 am »
So I went to see and R32 last night in Dublin with fantastic spec, recaro buckets and only 59,000 miles.

Knew from the second I walked in that the salesman was shady but you know what it's like when you're looking at a car you want, you get blurred vision and started seeing roses!

So I took it for a test drive and when you gently tap accelerator between 1000rpm - 1200rpm you could feel a vibration in the chair. That's my first concern but not a deterrent just yet.

Whilst I was driving, my brother took details from the car history book.

We got back and the salesman wouldn't let me VCDS scan it so that's my second concern.

The service history on a 2007 car shows only one DSG service in it's life at 55,000 miles in 2012 which is my third concern.

Finally I call George Dalton who is the AKS Alex of Ireland, he in fact did the dsg service in 2012 and I've also been to him in the past.

He calls me back 40mins later after checking his records and tells me of very poor bodywork, he reckons it has been crashed and repaired privately because online records show no history so that's my fourth and final concern.

Now I don't write this post to insult anyone's car for sale but just to warn anyone who might be looking. R32's are very rare here, with only 4 currently for sale in Ireland so when a gem like this pops up you could go in and let your heart rule your head!

The dealer also told me that he would export it to the UK in 6 weeks time if it's not sold!!!

No joke, it was completely wedged and the dealer had to leave me waiting 20mins waiting whilst he moved 7 other cars!

Hi Luke,

I drove that car in September 2015!! It was for sale in "Autokey" in Dublin at the time.

It was a bit ropey with bald mismatching tyres - a cracked windscreen - bubbling paintwork in the arches etc. etc.

But generally it was such a lovely car, with the Audi wheels etc. I was smitten

The salesman promised to fit fresh tires, new windscreen, repair arches etc and I was seriously considering it........but......

The salesman told me that the previous owner had emigrated and just left the car sitting up for three years. Hence the gaps in the service history and spotty condition. He said he knew the previous owner and would give me his number so I could call him. We did a deal on the price. And I said I'd come and take the car away once I'd spoken to the previous owner.....

Needless to say the previous owners telephone number never materialised. The salesman kept telling me not to worry. And promised me I didn't really need to talk to the previous owner  :surprised::surprised:

I got a bad feeling and I walked away. Bought a Mk5 GTI two weeks later and haven't looked back :happy2:

I'm really chuffed I walked away now that I've read your post. Looks like a near miss eh!!

I would be so suspicious of someone not allowing me to VCDS the car. I think that'd be a deal breaker right there!

Cheers all,
Dave

The thing is fairly compactly parked!! Is it one of the ballymount garages that has it?? I'd have ran if he didn't let me put laptop on it!!

Was looking at this myself was going to go have a gander next week.
Looks lovely from the pictures in the ads..

You've just saved me a journey  :happy2:

There was a lovely 3 door blue one 2008 for sale the other day. I missed out on it.
Was @13k then he dropped to £11.. think he might have let it go for even less in the end.
Some other fella has it back up @ £13.5k!!

I'm actually not far from autokey and after reading this it jogged my memory on it! I do recall seeing it there...

Also that story on the last owner is a total lie I'd say. The dealer who currently has it is Deerpark motors in Stillorgan and he told me that the previous owner was a lifetime customer of his who buys several cars a year and that he bought this one to keep with his collection and then traded it in after several years to get something new. Most likely another lie!

The service book shows it starting it's life in Donegal and then resting in Louth until it appeared in Dublin in 2012 and then went dormant for a few years, most likely when it was crashed!

Sorry, only seeing your reply on this now Luke.....

Jaysus, it's mad the sh*t they come up with isn't it. The AutoKey guy told me a whole yarn about how the owner was known to him personally and his family were big in the Crane business and went bust in the recession hence his emigration and the car lying up...... Etc, etc, etc....

And then the DeerPark guy goes and tells you another total line of sh*te!! Really that's got my goat. That's two sets of absolute C**NTS I'll never go near for a car.....

Sorry to be getting wound up. It's just I used to work in the motor trade and part of the reason I got out of it was because there were so many pricks to contend with...

Ok, ok, that's enough... Rant over  :happy2:
