eBay headlights
« on: May 23, 2016, 09:04:32 am »
Hello everyone,

been a while since my last post....

anyway, has anyone installed these (or something like these)?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361401445960?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

i am considering getting some.. My passenger headlight has gone all glazed and crackled and quite like the look of these.

thanks

They are horrible imo. Angel eyes only belong on bmw.

The depo projectors are much better and same sort of price.

thanks for your opinion slix.

are these the type of thing you mention?

would they be plug and play over standard lights or do i need more stuff to make them work?

I'd go for the second set you posted. I have these. Direct fit to mk5 golfs, no modifications needed.

cheers guys. i just read another thread on here and the only thing that's required from a coding point of view is to mark the "xenon" checkbox in VAG_COM.

it's my birthday tomorrow so i'll take the plunge and order a set. :D

Shouldn't have to do that as they are just using your normal bulbs.

lol! ok mate. Just was slightly confused after reading this thread: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,94391.0.html

i'll just see what happens when they arrive and if i can use the bulbs i already have. Might have got confused about using halogen bulbs in those headlights and doing some mods on the bulbs themselves.

i'll find out on wednesday i guess :D

If you're going to be using xenon bulbs you will have to code them in on vagcom without shutters or you'll blow your wiper motor. Raz told me this amd others have blown their wiper motors by not doing so.

Happy birthday  :signLOL:

With the xenon bulbs you need the balasts and igniters right? And don't you have to mod the hole for them to fit in the bulb holders too?

I was going to get some depo lights and just use my normal halogen bulbs but was worried the light output would be even worse than stock and would look pants.

putting halogen bulbs in them will low light output.

Get one of these
http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/ultra-35w-slim-hid-xenon-conversion-kit-h1-h3-h4-h7-h8-h9-h11-9005-9006/

Thats what I got in mine with 5000k bulbs. You can screw the ballast under the headlight and you will need to drill a hole in the plastic cap for the wires to go through. Really easy to do. And yes you should get someone with VCDS to tick the box that says Xenons without shutters installed to avoid wiper motor from failing.

nice one guys thanks for the info.

so basically, i can use the depo lights with my existing halogen bulbs, but the light output will be lower than standard.

next step, once installed is to get the kit that retroraz mentioned which includes xenons and other stuff and then re-code via vcds.

sounds like a plan?

edit: and thanks r5gtt :)

I'd advise you to install the xenon hid kit before headlights go in as it'll be a lot easier or its double the trouble.

I'd personally advise a 55w kit too.
