Should the DSG start without foot brake?
« on: January 15, 2010, 04:46:19 pm »
Hi All
Quickie.
Wife started car from passenger side the other day.  Never knew the DSG would start without using the foot brake (and key before someone comments).  After years with auto boxes starting a car with the foot brake is second nature.
Is this normal?
Cheers

Yeah, if it is in P, then it'll start on the key like a normal car.
Sideways yo!

....

DSG cars will start their engine but you can't shift out of P into gear without first having foot on the brake pedal.

I do like the Porsche system of "foot-on-brake" or "foot-on-clutch" (for manuals) before you can start. Nice interlock system.

My S3 requires the clutch to be depressed before starting.  It advises you on the DiS and simply won't start if you don't press it.

No mate, it can be fitted and there is a good DiY but something I've never been interested in.

You can - but you'll soon struggle when you try to take the key out!  You can't unless the car is put into P.

Why.  :stupid:

You should be able to turn the engine off at all times for safety reasons. If your upside down in a hedge and can smell fuel the last thing i would want to be trying to do is put it into park.
