Afternoon All.

Getting danger close now to the new Golf. The plan was do the deal and sell my Edition 30 privately.

I have noticed this past month some very nice examples in the for sale section but with zero interest.My question is has the end finally come for the Eddy.? I'm seriously thinking
of just taking the dealer trade in hit and by passing the crawler lane of private sale.

Of course my car is mint,DSG with all the Revo goodies but I don't think that cuts it anymore.Maybe price is the issue,have we finally reached the 7k Ed30?

I thank you in advance for the forums opinion I just don't know.

I understand where you are coming from. I think its inevitable as the overall price/value of these secondhand Gti’s & Ed30 falls, at some point they become very affordable, to everyone.
It feels that the Mk5 GTi/Ed30 has two distinct groups of owners, those that cherish them and those that chase the cheap thrills, speed and BHP. The Gti/Ed30 still offers great bang for buck! 
A lot of the original bunch on here from the start have moved on and up towards Golf R’s etc

I sold mine 12 months ago and fortunantly had a lot of interest, I’ve loosely followed the ‘cars for sale section’ and they do appear to stick around longer, It feels like there isn't as much interest in these 7/8 year old cars - that could be down to cheap lease deals and the like or that VW dealers no longer have them on their forecourt, due to age. If you've got a good one you’ll sell it - Just depends how quickly you need to shift it.

Imo...and I'm no trader!

We're headed for banger territory, that's for sure. Inevitable fact of life, and the motor trade.
Will take along time yet to get through that and, maybe out the other side for some cherished cars, which will one day be classics. As a daily with 118k, (and a tow bar) I'm realistic and don't expect mine to make it. Likely will rust out or be stuffed through a hedge? Meanwhile, I'm enjoying it daily too!

Yours sounds like it has a better chance!

A colleague of mine has recently paid £35k for some sort of 80's Escort Cossie. Not my thing, but there's plenty that will really pay, even for "classic" hot hatches.
Another 5k would get you a reasonable DB9, but that too is not an "investment"...yet, perhaps a bit liiee your eddy? The DB was my plan until the @rse dropped out of oil n gas offshore, so dosh will stay pension bound for now.

So, it's face-up and bail out now, or park yours in a barn for another 10 years and keep your fingers crossed that the whole "classic" bubble doesn't let you down.
(Thinks back to my XR2, '68 Cooper S, TR6, Karmann convertible Beetle etc.....wish I'd had a barn then!)

Would you be willing to share with us the difference between your trade in figure, and private sale "value"?

Think it's more linked to the bottom price of a standard gti being around £3000 now, difficult to justify more than double that for an ed30?

Price the vehicle realistically with a correctly worded, well presented and comprehensive advert with plenty of pictures and it will sell.
Just moved our 2006 Disco HSE on to its new owners in less than 24 hours using this method for the advertised price - no messing about.

Eccie you make a valuable point on the recent lease deals combine that as you say with a 57 plate car and the nail is hit.Grey Golfster reminds me of a thread started back in my MKIV days
on the forum(MKIV of course) which shunted me straight into the MKV GTi...Banger!..and then the entry level GTi cost which white 91 brought up kinda answers my question.

AS Stuf says.Be honest with both detail and price and it just might stay in the forum.

Its Revo Stage 1 and 2 with the Revo DSG software..I've never ran Stage 2,my daily commute is a 13 mile round trip I'm 53 and treated it like a lady.. What a waste  The only let down is stone chips on the bonnet.. I will go the dealer route very shortly,get his price then try the for sale section.

I'm heading for the R..

Hi mate,

i only recently bought my Ed30 (6 weeks) and i had a few £££ to spend and at the time it was £9-£10k for one with 65k or less on the clock or £7500 with 100k+ on the clock.

I was being abit fussy with spec's etc and i wanted DSG at the time but the prices where abit up and down the higher prices being from Trade/Dealers.

I ended up with a 2 owner full history 2007 89k Black DSG with a few toys for £6800 (private sale) but was due a service, and timing belt etc and the paint work does need a good polish/detail due to hologram marks.

So now the car with everything done and stage 1 APR owes me just over £8k

Hope that helps in some way, also my partner works for a Main Dealer and Live Caps the cars etc before i buy them but half the time they are so un-realistic its unbelivalble so watch out for the main dealer prices.

Still on the look for an eddy. But like everyone else I suppose you want what you want. Certain criteria the ed has to meet. Miles, colour, dsg/manual, 3/5 door, mods/no mods.. List is endless.. I've been searching for weeks and weeks and come across some beautiful eddy's (mainly tornado red.. Like.. A rediculous amount of TR..) But like thingy ma bob said, it's a passion car for people who WANT AN ED, Not a civic.. If I've worded that properly?..  So you find a picture of that perfect beauty, and won't settle for a thing out of place..

Also I have have like 7k so... It's even harder

I'm beginning to understand a lot more. I'm unsure as yet of the dealer offer until I go.He is a family friend and gave me a smashing price for a brand new 08 GTi plus 10k for my MKIV. But he has to make a buck thats business.

I said earlier I'm heading down the R route,great motor but the thing is I know I'm going to miss the 30.

I got my Eddy a year ago and I admit I was unsure of the real difference to the GTI apart from it being a special celebration edition and only a few made.

As I owned it more and looked into it more I was more and more convinced of what a special car I had and for me the 9k I paid was a snippet for what it gives me back. Yes there is the inevitable old car syndrome of rust and everything and with mine being a daily it will not end up being those 20 or so classics in 10 years of whatever that people are after. Nor will it get back the money for selling or exchanging. So for me if funds permit I will not be getting rid of the Eddy at all until it has to be put out of it's misery which may mean retiring it as a daily and upgrading and keeping him as a weekend car to prolong his life

Regardless of the Edition 30 or a normal GTI - it is now a 10 year old + design car and to some members of the public it looks dated and regardless of the GTI or Edition 30 badge, it is still only a Golf to them (speaking from experience, where people have actually said this to me).

The sky-high prices for these cars will decrease considerably now as the general public just simply do not appreciate what a GTI is. Only to us enthusiasts the prices will remain a little higher as we know what we are looking for with detailed spec lists etc.

I'm not in any way putting the Golf down (I own one and love it) but for most people out there, they want a newer car as possible for less money as possible, therefore the Golf GTI with it's high prices will not tick most peoples boxes.

I was going to get a new golf r but after 7 years of owning my Ed30 i have refound my love for it it seems to be getting cooler. When i do venture out i see golf r's everywhere they are a awsome car no doubt but i just think the Ed30 is class.
This is mine only 45k currently in the bodyshop getting a few stone chips done and a dent caused by a stupid cyclist

I'm going down the Golf R route as well and currently have one on order. My Edition 30 will be up for sale soon and I've been looking at prices recently just to see what's out there for what price, so I can price mine fairly. I too was surprised at how seemingly nice examples priced fairly seem to be struggling to sell. But then I see some that appear overpriced and seem to sell.

I won't be PXing mine. VW offered me an insulting offer for it as they don't see it as a  special car, even though it was when it was new. They see it as an 8 year old Golf that they can't put on the forecourt, even though it's been looked after and is in great condition for it's age. 

So if anyone is looking for a one owner Candy White Edition 30, watch this space (well, not this space, but a space in the classifieds!).
