I'm going down the Golf R route as well and currently have one on order. My Edition 30 will be up for sale soon and I've been looking at prices recently just to see what's out there for what price, so I can price mine fairly. I too was surprised at how seemingly nice examples priced fairly seem to be struggling to sell. But then I see some that appear overpriced and seem to sell.

I won't be PXing mine. VW offered me an insulting offer for it as they don't see it as a  special car, even though it was when it was new. They see it as an 8 year old Golf that they can't put on the forecourt, even though it's been looked after and is in great condition for it's age.

So if anyone is looking for a one owner Candy White Edition 30, watch this space (well, not this space, but a space in the classifieds!).

Try going round a few private traders in your area, ones that can buy off of you and slap straight on their forecourt as they can sell it straight away and make a few £££. I'd say you would lose 1k this way but beats hanging around waiting for a private sale.

I was offered a silly price by a bmw dealers but only because they can't sell the car on their premises so would have to sell at auction probably so only offered me 6k.

Another MK7R wannabee here.... it's the 4WD that seals it for me!
But-  i will be waiting for you to pay the VAT, Car Tax and 3 years depreciation before I'm in the game....at £15k or so for your £35k Golf (think about that a £35k Golf!)......round we go again?

Oh, and don't forget all the candy white ones will be out of fashion by then, so they will be even cheaper...sorry for being so synical, but got screwed on my now "unwanted" met grey 5yo beemer last time around!

Gulf stream. How about selling your car here at p-ex price, at least another enthusiast will get to cherish her?

Rich83 - better options???

Yes the golf R lookd good and yes it is a new car but for me when I spend my money I want something unique.

I see so many golf R's around now but not many ED30's and that is the way I like it.

Plus I do not care what other people think and know of what the ED30 is which makes it even more nicer when they think they can fly off the line at traffic lights in their new car only to realise I have already gone and left them in my dust  :happy2:

Easy now mates,I'm beginning to have doubts now.

Upgrade..thats all. I know my 30 is brilliant.very quick and still turns heads but its done 90k now. If my Candy White was'nt stolen I'm sure we would be having the same chat about that one. I had the chance to move on 2 years ago but refused it is just a fantastic solid car.To me there is'nt the scene in the R or the GTI 7 that we know and love but I won't leave the marque and I need something new to carry me and the Mrs into retirement.

My 10 pence on the subject.

I picked up a Mk5 R32 4 weeks ago. I whittled it down to a ED30 or the R32. There seemed to be either 'cheaper' ED30 of which I viewed a few which looked to be in decent order which were bangers and owned by people who could not afford to maintain them. Or very expensive ones which were very tidy and sorted but priced rather optimistically.

For me, the ED30 felt and looked to much like a standard GTI. Where as the R32 felt that little bit more special which when you are dropping £8K plus on a 10 year old Golf it needs to feel that way.

I have noticed the vast majority of Ed30 I looked at, at both ends of the spectrum are still for sale. I think a very tidy, sensible priced one advertised well and slightly under market value should sell well.
