Ed35 or 7gti??
Dazst250:
I didn't know where to put this so thought best bet was mk7 section has most will have come from mk5-6 GTIs.
Any at the moment I have a 2015 Focus ST3 brilliant car and with my mods it's quick but I'd like to get back in a golf once my 3 year option plan is up. Problem is prices are quite good on both the Ed35 mk6 and the 7gti with pp but which one?? Also looking at the new Audi S3 seen a couple of decent lowish mileage one for around £21-£22k

I loved the 3 years I had with my ed35, fantastic car and always felt very special :happy2:
There's only 700ish on the road so you'll enjoy the rarity aspect and mine held its value extremely well and you wouldn't be disappointed with one imo.
However, having had your mk5 you will find the mk6 dynamically very similar and the platform/tech is starting to feel it's age once you have tried the mk7 platform,
I had a few hours in a mk7 PP GTi and its quite the step up from the ed35 in terms of ride and handling and the tech is in another league imo..
As much as it pains me being a huge fan of the mk5/6, especially the anniversary editions I'd go MK7 every time

Cheers Ian, the only thing that is pulling me towards the ed35 and s3 is the handling on the 7gti?? I had a mk7 GTD for 5 weeks and hated it just didn't feel settled on the road and wobbled around corners? I think after seeing some vids of the S3 I might be swayed towards the Ed35 or S3. Stage 1 S3 with 320hp sounds nice.
AJP:
Mk7 GTI seems massively more exclusive than any other mk7 on the road at the minute. No end of Rs and GTDs. It's got to the point where I don't even see past the body shape to acknowledge whether it's one of the two now. All lease specials.
I parked next to an ed35 a few weeks ago and had a good nosey. Really nice. Lovely alloys that just about suit the mk6. But it wasn't 'wow'. Maybe because it was grey.
Anyway, when the thrill of the thing, aesthetically at least, wears off, you're left with the nuts and bolts. And everything I've learned tells me the mk7 is massive step on from the mk6. Which the mk6 aint, compared to the mk5.
You'd have more cred on the road in an ed35 - people would point from their mk5 GTI and go "ooh an ed35, haven't seen one of those", but you're not in that mk5, so the novelty is kind of lost.
Get the mk7 GTI, tweak it here and there, and enjoy how it conquers all. Think the latest Clubsport thing just did something special round the ring incidentally.

Very surprised to hear about your experience of the handling on the mk7?! The ride and handling is the most noticeable improvement over the mk5/6 imo :happy2:
As I say you'll be very happy with a '35, it's a really lovely car but I do feel that a mk7 PP beats it in all areas other than looks and rarity tbh, the new 2.0TSi with its better low down torque makes quite a difference to the drive imo and a friend has just had his stage 1 mapped to 320bhp :driver:
Which S3 are you looking at, 8P or 8V? As the latest shape maps to 370ish on stage 1!
