Horn stuck on
« on: May 28, 2016, 11:19:01 am »
I've fitted cruise control to my car today and now my horn is stuck on constantly,
VCDS Fault code says short to ground
I've taken the steering wheel back off and checked it's not shorting out behind there which it doesn't appear to be.
I'm not sure whether it might be the slipring or steering control module faulty as I've changed the module to a highline so I can fit my MFSW later on.

The original control module was AF and the new is AQ
I haven't changed the slipring,
I've had to remove the horn fuse for now but I obviously want to get the horn working properly again

Any ideas or anyone had the same problem?
Cheers!

You've done something inside the air bag wiring area so remove this and try refit  :happy2:

Already tried this bud, the airbag wiring and everything is all as it should be, with the airbag unclipped from the steering wheel and held away so no wires can short out its still the same.

Have you some how damaged the slip ring?. Maybe take it off again and check it.

I had the slip ring off again a couple of times and it doesn't feel/look particularly damaged, there's no airbag faults either. Don't know what it's like inside though so might get a new one and try that..

I don't think I've ever needed to use my horn as much as when I can't use it :signLOL:

I did the retro CC months back and luckily didn't have any issues but it is a pain in the  :booty: even though it's been fitted back correctly. Can't really think of anything else it could be but the slip ring itself.

I know the feeling when you need it it's not working

Put your old SWCM back in, leave the cruise stalk in and if it goes away and no VSDS faults, then its the new ish AQ module? personally I would have just got the 40 quid CH module brand new from eaby.
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

I did think it might be the SWCM, I've seen on google and other forums people have had issues with the AQ modules, it only cost me £10 though so I thought I would try it.
I tried my old one earlier and it didn't do it
Off to buy a CH it is then!  :driver:

Wondering why you replaced the steering module as my car is a 55 reg 06 registered car and I used my original what was in the car?.
I'm betting it's the CM causing the issue and probably needs programming or taken off.

He upgraded to a high line module for possibly later installing a MFSW

no idea at all, but starting off with other parts you can't prove the history off is always a pain. that said he could be really really unlucky and buy a faulty CH module!

CH Control module has been ordered now

I'm always really really unlucky with these things @SI-R32 so I'm sure I'll manage to get a faulty CH

@r5gtt I upgraded it as I've fitted a MFSW aswell, just waiting for the airbag loom for it to turn up then I can code it and hopefully will all work
