Monza Diamond Cutting Tomorrow!!!
« on: June 01, 2016, 02:30:28 pm »
So after much debating to and from I've decided to get my Monza II's diamond cut tomorrow.

Only one place in Ireland have the equipment to do it properly I believe and they've given me 5% off so all in it'll take 3 days and they'll give me wheels in the meantime. Little do they know, they'll be fitting my new tyres upon completion so that'll save me another €50.

All in its €475.

I wasn't sure about it for a while but the last diamond cut lasted at least 3 years so I'm going for it!

I'll upload photos when I get them back!

I'm debating it as well luke. You cant beat the diamond cut look finish IMO, although @Beej got very very close.

I actually don't know if mine are saveable - they're in such bad condition (previous owner, honest). Does anyone know if theirs a limit to how damaged they can be?

I wish I could get hold of the last owner and actually commend them because the last job was unbelievable! Hopefully this place will do a good job. Before I hand over anything I'll get confirmation from them and ask for previous photos...

@Peskyjones I thought the same myself, the process removes just a mm or so off the front to bring up a clean face but if the kerbing is too deep I'm not sure what they can do about it!

The look of diamond cut in an underground car park is  :jumping:

Yeah, I'm very happy with the results, however, they still aren't diamond cut!

nu-luk wheels in my hometown of Carrickfergus has the gear to do them as far as I know. Don't think it'd be priced anywhere close to 475 eur though! Hope you get it looking well.

That painting job is very good actually!!

That would cost about 70% of what I'm paying for diamond cut right?

That taking into consideration, I'll go diamond cut because although it might not have the same longevity, I'll get a good 2 years and who knows, I'll probably have a GTE or R then!

They will last a long time if you look after them. Seal them like original and always keep them clean, only use the correct cleaner. Buy some winter wheels so the salt doesn't cause problems.

Problem isn't sealing them too much it's stone chips. Sealing will help keep them clean and help prevent any penetrating corrosion from brake dust into the wheels through the clearcoat.

But you can't protect against stonechips unless you have them clear wrapped like paint protection film and it's stonechips that kill these wheels.

475 Euros is crazy I'd just get them painted or powder coating in a chrome type effect with black barrels for that! You can also buy some nice wheels .

It is a lot of money, but if you coat them correctly and ensure that you keep on top of the maintenance it should last longer than the 3 years you had previously.

As pesky mentioned and copied the pictures over, mine were painted two tone, I have some close ups , but I see to have problems uploading pictures to photobucket from my phone, so I will do it when I get a chance on my computer.

They are only painted, so as has been mentioned, stone chips and brake dust eating through is the problems, and I will without a doubt come into that problem in the future regardless of how much I seal and clean them. It's just cheaper having then done this way rather than re cut
