MK5 GTI battery
« on: June 02, 2016, 10:42:53 am »
My Gti has been parked up for around a year now and I've decided to get it mot'd and back on the road. Thinking of calling the AA out to jump st my car but will tht battery most likely be goosed after not being started for a year? Will it lose its charge quickly...

If so where best place to buy a battery, ECP? Was thinking Bosch but unsure?

it might be ok if you charge it with a slow charger.  jumping the battery quickly wont do it any favours

Any chance you could get your hands on another equivalent battery? Will your current car battery suit? Know anyone with a GTI?

I'd go down the route of a slow trickle charger preferably but they cost upward of £60

If you charge it it might be OK. However car batteries really hate being left for a long time in discharged state even if fairly new, due to build up of insoluble Pb-oxide on the plates. If you find it won't hold charge then buy a new one. I went for Bosch but oem is Varta & slightly cheaper.
