This has been a very valuable post.

I bought my GT TDI 170 at the beginning of January and stumbled on this post, called my mate who works for Advantage VW Stirling who confirmed mine was part of the recall (56 plate).

Booked in for Tuesday, I too will let you all know how I get on as I believe my mpg could be better and has also had a few too many turns of the engine to start for my liking recently.

Scott.

Can people post up what the average MPG?

I had my injectors done but haven't noticed much of a difference. I struggle to get up to 40mpg, on a constant drive into brighton, doing around 35 - 40mph.

I know there is a problem with a glow plug, which im just waiting to get changed, but would this be the issue..?

Cheers

Mine doesn't seem to have changed.  On my daily commute, 25 motorway miles each way at a steady 70-80mph I average 50 - 55 mpg (from the computer).

I had my injectors replaced, after a quick phone call to VW, in Decemeber - all very efficient. The car runs and drives fine but is now poor at starting, especially when the weather is cold. - previously it was single short turn of the key, after the glow plug had done its thing, Now its 2 or 3. Has anyone else experienced this?

Cheers

Had mine swapped over yesterday by Advantage Stirling and the whole process was painless. Not so was the other issues they found when they also did its service but thats another story. Could just be me but it seems to run a bit quieter now and the mpg seems to have improved a tiny bit.

All in all, I'm a happy bunny

Mine was done yesterday at Drift Bridge VW in Epsom ('56 plate GT 170).

Very painless, they put me in a loan car for the day and mine came back sparkling clean which was a bonus as it was covered in usual winter detritrus.  The car drives the same, but two things noticed - the DPF light came on a couple of miles after leaving the garage - a quick M25 blast last night which I needed to do anyway cleared it, I suspect just due to sitting idling for some time in the workshop?

Also, MPG's seem to have improved somewhat.  My usual morning commute is stop start through a couple of towns, and tended to get high 30's.  Pulled up at work this morning showing 49mpg on the MFA.  Now traffic was light today, but still very distinct improvement?

GTLEE - any further forward ?

Got mine done last week, there had been nothing wrong with the car. It went in on wednesday for the recall . Got it back it's now erratic at low revs and drinking the juice although the mfd says it's doing 80 / gal ! Put it back in on Friday , one injector had failed , replaced . Friday night the same symptoms again. I had it in again this morning , they say there's nothing showing on diagnostics . The engine definitely sounds noisier and as if it's using more fuel, which it is but the mfd shows the opposite, which is wrong .
MY CAR WAS RUNNING FINE BEFORE THIS "ENHANCEMENT" , thank you VW UK.
Can I take legal action against VERVE WISHAW - Folks do not use them , they dont know what they are doing

GTLEE - any further forward ?

Spoke to aftersales manager of the stealers and explained the situation and was promised he would look into it,but after 3 years of annual servicing and 2 warranty work (mechatronic and roof lining replacement)each time they have totally screwed things up at this dealership,I decided I  won't be using them anymore.

Still no response from the aftersales guy which in my eyes they don't give a sh*t about customer service.

Hello all. It's my first post. I have join because I have this injector fault. Iv had the car for 2 and a half years now with no faults until now. My car cut out on the motorway on Saturday and after an internet search I came across this thread. I have removed my rocker cover and checked the numbers on the injectors and they are 073M the ones that need to be changed. My question is as this wasn't an official recall and only a service action how long does it last? The guy at VW Customer service told me they don't last forever only a couple of years.

PS as a plane 'B' what are the part numbers for the replacements and where could I buy them? I can replace them myself as I have a friend who has the removal tool

Many thanks in advance Frank
