To be honest I wouldn't worry about a guide too much, the only difference is you skip the step for removing the diverter valve - rest of it is the same process.
@Craig Stanley where are you based? A full datalogging session is what would be needed, looking at the misfire counter ro see if its a misfire causing the issues etc. There are plenty of enthusiasts on here with VCDS who would be able to help. Another possibility is a vacuum leak of some description, bad MAF reading etc. which can be indicated through large fuel trim adaptions (again through VCDS)
It could even be the fans of they are failing and drawing too much current?
Just as a comparison, when my fans are on I cannot even tell from inside the car with the windows up.... cannot hear it, no change in engine note. The only time the engine note ever changes on idle is if I turn the A/C on... then you can tell slightly as the idle is a little lower and sounds a little laboured.
