Removing the battery whilst away on holidays

Going away on Thursday for 10 days, i have to leave the car on the driveway, so been thinking would it be worth taking the battery out as an extra measure to help prevent theft?

Anyone done this before? Any obvious problems i might cause by doing this?

AFAIK none. You'll just have to program the comfort feature of the window switches when you reconnect the battery and readjust the clock. :smiley:

Just remember to check that your manual key operated drivers door lock works, as you'll need it when you get back of holiday!

Not worth the effort. If they can bypass the immobiliser then a battery is the least of their worries considering they would have up to a whole ten days to come back and 'finish the job'

Not true, 5 minutes with a laptop and they could drive it away

Disabling the engine itself is the best bet. Rich's idea is the best so far

Not sure about that on a non kessy car but IMO the easiest option would then be to pull the 20A ignition coil fuse in the engine compartment.

I just put mine in "KILL" mode with my GIAC loader and take the loader with while away. Don't know if it can be bypassed...but I feel like I will find my GTI still parked when I return. Also, it sits inside the garage.  :happy2:

Remove the plugs and put coil packs back in, no chance of it starting... loosen all the wheel bolts and leave the keys in it....
