Removing the battery whilst away on holidays

Of course if someone really wants it probably not much to stop them, but every little helps, i seen those videos of the M1 being nicked from right outside the front door via laptop

Disabling the engine itself is the best bet. Rich's idea is the best so far

Not sure about that on a non kessy car but IMO the easiest option would then be to pull the 20A ignition coil fuse in the engine compartment.

A professional thief with the correct tools can program in a new key in a matter of minutes. With the right tools it really is that easy.

I just put mine in "KILL" mode with my GIAC loader and take the loader with while away. Don't know if it can be bypassed...but I feel like I will find my GTI still parked when I return. Also, it sits inside the garage. 

If the GIAC device works In the same way as the REVO SPS, and has 'switchable maps' in the same was as Revo, APR etc etc. then I'm pretty sure a simple battery disconnect would reset it to the normal/default program.

Is this a Golf we're talking about, or a Lambo / Fezza / Aston????  FFS, lock it up in the garage and go enjoy your holiday. U probably spent a quarter / half of the value of your car on your holiday, and the car is insured.....

Going away on Thursday for 10 days, i have to leave the car on the driveway, so been thinking would it be worth taking the battery out as an extra measure to help prevent theft?

Anyone done this before? Any obvious problems i might cause by doing this?

City center bud, very good neighbors thankfully, but the guy next door had his motorbike nicked from right outside his front door just a couple of weeks ago
