Hi

I am toying with the idea of selling the Edition 30 and getting something newer

I've had 2 quotes now from main dealers (Land Rover and Skoda) and both have come back with £4500.    Spat my tea out when I was given the quote

The car has done 80k so it's not like the mileage is that high

Just wondering if anyone else has been quoted anything higher?

Not an ED30, but a main dealer offered me £4100 for my old MK6. Sold it privately for £8000. Con artists!

They're absolute thieving gits, I traded in my 206 GTi 02 plate about 30k miles against the Mk5 Golf GTi in 2009. Despite having the sports mesh grills, 17" GTi 180 alloys, colour coded trim, 6 CD changer, LED rear lights, Sport exhaust and upgraded manifold, lowered on Bilstein dampers & Eibach springs, Drilled and grooved brakes & green stuff pads, full leather interior (which was a rarity in the UK) they gave me a whopping £2800 off the 12k MK5!

I didn't have to accept but wanted rid as I wanted something newer and its the easy option without dozens of tyre kickers and beggers looking at it!

P**sed me off though when I saw it for sale for nearly 5k on there website a few days later...

That's more than I got offered for mine!  Mine has higher mileage though..

Look on any dealerships none of the used cars are above 3-4 years old, they'll accept old cars but most get sent right off to auction hence the rock bottom prices given...

There was a black 05 plate GTi on Autotrader a few weeks ago identical to mine with higher mileage, made a big deal about the rare beige interior, only partial service history and was up for nearly 8k!!!

Just looked on Autotrader theres a 05 plate poverty spec 48k miles £7450!

Theres MK6 GTi's nearly the same price as used 2013 MK7 GTi's, the whole used car market is a mess!

A used car will always be worth what someone is willing to pay, it's just a shame that dealer's can give right low trade in prices because they know you are looking for a change and normally quick so you don't really want to sit on a car waiting for a private buyer to cone along

After receiving similar quotes from my ed30, I have now been put off trading in. Sell private if you can or keep it as it's a cracking car and you can't get much similar performance wise and build for the same money.

They offered me 6.2k for my 50k ed30

Defo the best thing to do. And it's a quite hard car to sell private as not a lot of people know about the whole edition thing. I didn't until I bought mine.

These cars both Edition Models and standard GTI's aren't classic coveted vehicles and don't forget the fact although the dealership may advertise the car at a later date for a higher price they still have to clean/valet/insure/store and advertise said vehicle hopefully for a little more than they themselves paid for it.
I think that's how the car dealers business model work? They are out to try and make some money - and for sale price isnt the actual sale price!

If you want top money for your car, produce a well written advert, take some high quality pics and be honest with any negative points.
If its priced reasonably it will sell - if its too high it wont.

We recently went through this complete process when swapping our 2006 Disco 3 HSE for a new 2016 Touareg R-Line
Strangely they weren't interested in the 10 year old Disco and offered us about 6k trade in, I produced a good well written advert and it sold privately for more than double that within 24 hours.

Private sale will always achieve more than a trade in - always
