^^ not saying that at all.

Just a p1ss take as an example they will buy my car for 6.5k and put up up for 10. That's a massive margin and no need for it. Just greed. I understand they have to make a living and money... but 3.5k?!

Shock horror - dealer offers low ball trade in price against another car on their forecourt
What do you expect? Top dollar private sale price?

These cars both Edition Models and standard GTI's aren't classic coveted vehicles and don't forget the fact although the dealership may advertise the car at a later date for a higher price they still have to clean/valet/insure/store and advertise said vehicle hopefully for a little more than they themselves paid for it.
I think that's how the car dealers business model work? They are out to try and make some money - and for sale price isnt the actual sale price!

If you want top money for your car, produce a well written advert, take some high quality pics and be honest with any negative points.
If its priced reasonably it will sell - if its too high it wont.

We recently went through this complete process when swapping our 2006 Disco 3 HSE for a new 2016 Touareg R-Line
Strangely they weren't interested in the 10 year old Disco and offered us about 6k trade in, I produced a good well written advert and it sold privately for more than double that within 24 hours.

Private sale will always achieve more than a trade in - always

Obviously wouldn't expect private sale price but 4.5k for a car being sold by dealers for double that is a piss take

I'm not naive enough to not understand that a car dealer needs to make a margain but they'll do that by selling you a car

My advice: never trade your car in - you'll never get a good deal. Instead, do the graft yourself, market your vehicle privately, suffer a few deluded tyre kickers, and sell it for what you believe it's worth, or as close as. And if a private buyer offers you an insulting price, then it's your prerogative to tell them to do one.

If, on the other hand, you desperately want a new car/want a quick sale, then I'm afraid you've got little choice other than to bend over, lube up and accept you're being shafted.
