From what I can remember when I went about my front wings the guy said that the depth should be around the 100-120 mark? As mine was 300 ish I didn't qualify!

I'm not %100 sure. I know the number was in the 100's though.

Most of the time it bounces around 120-180. I'd say 225+ indicates its been painted

Interesting,  thanks chaps.

Mines registering at about 140 on the wing and the vw agent said it's been sprayed with those figures but couldn't find any evidence of masking,  blending etc.

Tell him to go f*ck himself. That's perfectly acceptable and he knows it, just trying to wriggle out of it. Measure the roof for a comparison and other panels, if it matches the wing its pretty obvious it hasn't been painted

He did measure elsewhere and the figures were lower - around 100......

Car is silver if that makes any difference - I always used to hear that silver is applied thinner?

As others have said, anything from around 100 to around 180 is fairly normal for factory paint.

I'd be pretty surprised if they've been resprayed and are at 140. Anything 200+ I would assume had been done but 140 sounds like factory paint to me.

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.
