MK5 GTI - Big shopping list
« on: June 29, 2016, 07:22:47 pm »
Picked the car up just over a year ago to replace my old 6n2 Gti daily and go alongside my G40, both pictured below.

Anyways, onto the spec. After owning too many red cars i decided i didn't want another, even at the time of writing this i wish i bought a red one. So it had to be either dark grey or the dark blue. I was originally looking for something standard(ish) as it needed to perform daily duties. A few came and went and then one popped up on PistonHeads. It fitted the bill: Cloth interior, under 100,000 miles, factory cruise control and 18's.

It also came with:
Engine
Stage 2+ map by AmD
Miltek non resonated center section and rear box
Forge twintercooler
Nue speed air intake
Uprated fuel pump

Brakes
r32 front brakes and vented rears

Wheels
Genuine 19x8 BBS CH ET50 with 235/35 Champiro Hpy tyres

Suspension
Eibach lowering springs and standard shocks

All for the same price as the standard ones i was looking at. I have owned it for just over a year now and love it, i haven't done much to it other than look after it but now i am starting to get the itch again. So here here is the shopping list, more expensive stuff will have to wait and will try to do most of the bang for buck stuff first.

Exterior
Rear wiper delete - purchased
Open drivers side fog grill
OEM LED rear number plate lights
R32/ED30 rear lights
ED30 lower rear valance
ED30 front splitter
Colour coded side skirts
OEM Xenons

Interior
Fit Momo 280mm
GTI Seat Handle inserts
New OEM Mats
GTi Dead pedal
Chrome headlight switch
Chrome mirror switch
Chrome window switches
Interior LED lights
LED boot lights
Cherry Hazard warning switch
Newsouth Performance air vent boost gauge
ED30 Seats
RNS 510

Engine/Transmission
Black washer / coolant caps
R8 oil cap
Full new exhaust system - inc race cat/decat (not totally happy with the look and sound of the miltek at the moment)
Revision G diverter valve (unsure what is installed at the moment)
OEM R8 ignition coil pack
Red coil pack wiring harness
Shortshifter

Chassis
Subframe bolts - seem ok at the moment but a cheap and easy preventative measure
Whiteline Anti-lift kit
Coilovers - unsure on what to go for at the moment. Potentially AP as they were nice on the polo.

Good luck with the new GTI mate! Already has some really nice bits. :drinking:

If the rear brakes are vented you have a full R32 brake setup. The front calipers are from ATE and rear calipers are from TRW. Brembo lettering is a bit tacky in my opinion... :P

Thanks for the info. :) Yeah i am not a massive fan of it. I have thought about taking it off but not sure if it will drag any paint with it. I was thinking about going blue with the calipers at some point but not sure.

Lovely mate :happy2: Well wear. Looks in lovely condition.

Wheels are great. I agree the brembo stickers look a bit naff. Especially considering the hardware is a decent upgrade from standard. Blue would look good and ties in with the R32 hardware. I LOVE your G40!!! That is seriously cool :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:

What about the exhaust do you not like?? I've just had a custom 3inch turbo back fitted with 2 silencers and no cat. It's very loud between 2 and 3000rpm. Think I'm going to have to fit a 3in cat. It's a bit too loud to live with!

The cat wont make much difference mate. Id say you need a bigger resonator or backbox

DCC is only available on mk6's. What you can see are the ESP and TPMS buttons.

Fitted my Kill all Wipers delete grommet yesterday. I must say a really nice kit, the grommet fits will, plenty of sealant for how much you actually need and good instructions.

The worst parts are getting the wiper arm and plastic boot panel off. The wiper arm took a bit of wiggling and persuasion with a trim removal tool (if you don't have a set of these i strongly suggest getting some). The boot panel took a good tug to release the clips, but i managed to do it without cracking the panel. Once the panel was off it was a case of removing the motor, disconnect the water pipe and unplug.

Fitting the grommet was pretty easy, use a good amount of sealant as you can always wipe excess off. I taped over the back and got an extra pair of hands to hold it in place while i ran a skim of sealant over the top from the outside to ensure no leaks.

Phone picture below, but there isn't really much to see
