Tint on Side Mirrors?
« on: June 29, 2016, 12:39:22 pm »
Odd one this....I was reversing out of my garage the other day into the sunshine, and noticed that one of the mirrors seemed to have a blue-ish tint, but the other didn't (drivers side with tint).

I've never noticed it before, and thought that maybe a window had been replaced at some point with plain glass, but no, the glass in both sides is tinted, so it must be the mirrors.

Anyone else noticed? Curious......

Pretty sure I saw on a thread on this before..

I know with the early 04 and 05 models that the glass has a very noticeable blue tint which changed to a faint green after then... Mirrors might have been the same!

Your car must have had Mirror Pack 2 as a option which gives it a electrically folding and automatic anti-dazzle door mirror...

Ah, that might be it then. It does have electric folding mirrors (not that they move in very much!). So is it only the drivers side that has the anti-dazzle?

Thnx

With the car running in day light and the doors closed, hold your finger over the sensor on the back of the internal mirror, the internal mirror will get very dark, if your drivers mirror is also anti dazzle it will get very dark with a 5mm rim of normal mirror around its edge, this tells you if its anti dazzle.
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

I bought replacement wing mirror glass that was tinted blue when I had my mk5 GTI, so it's probably just that one is original and one is a replacement that doesn't match.

You can either buy just glass to stick on, or buy one that comes with the clip-on fitting already on the back.  You can alos buy heated or non-heated.  Here's an example ebay listing...
