adding an amp without pre out

Any idea on how to wire in Aftermarket preouts as I bought one of the Chinese OEM head unit copies with sat available and did player but it doesn't have preouts which I hadn't realised until too late. I've tried an adapter that plugs in the back but can't get my amp to power on. Should my amp power up without preouts still? As it me be a dodgy connection somewhere

Your amp should work with the adapter.

Have you connected the 12V trigger wire to the amp?
