Better late than never I guess...

Service time.

Car has just ticked over 50k. I had the DSG, Haldex, Brake Fluid & Major Service completed at VW last year within a week of buying it at approx. 43k. I also had the car put back to time/distance servicing, as it was previously on a Longline service plan.

Therefore, this year, minor service and also timing belt and water pump were due. I held off with the plugs - although not due, I will be replacing them to NGK BKR7EIX soon.

- Oil Service (switched to 5w40 which is recommended for the TFSI, especially as I have plans to map it this year. Went with Total Quartz 9000 fully synthetic).
- OEM Air & Oil Filters
- OEM Genuine VW Timing Belt
- OEM Genuine VW Waterpump

Luckily a friend is an Audi technician, and therefore can get me parts at trade price plus install for me.

I also thought it was a good time to change the cam follower. For those who may not know, this sits small tappet sits on the cam lobe behind the fuel pump. Although it's not a 'serviceable item' so to speak, it's well worth replacing and periodically checking. They are prone to wear over time, some worse than others, and if not replaced can wear through and cause damage to the camshaft.

Above is mine after 50k. I'm pretty sure this is the first time it has been replaced.

Finally, I managed to borrow his garage to fit my PolarFIS Advanced:

So far, so good. Install was a PITA. I opted to fit it via the driver cubby hole, move the fuse/relay board slightly and reach right back to the CAN gateway. The main struggle was getting to the CAN, once I'd located it I managed to install it within 30 seconds. Plug and play.

Truthfully I've not had much time to use it yet, but it's super easy to use and should come in handy later down the line.

Hopefully I'll get some time this weekend to explore the full list of features.

One final image from when the roads weren't as salty!
