The Big Come-Back
« on: July 14, 2016, 04:17:37 pm »
Well after almost FOUR years away from this place I'm back!

Some people might recognise my user name but i'm sure that after four years away countless people will have come and gone. When I originally started frequenting this forum I was the proud owner of a Tornado Red MK5 GTI. I loved that motor but unfortunately a few things just soured it for me so I sold up and moved on to pastures new. If you've read the popular thread on the VW Rust & Warranty then you'll understand why, lol.
Well I finally decided to come back to VW ownership and have just purchased a MK7 GTD in black which i picked up today so I thought i would re-introduce myself for those who are interested. Looking forward to getting involved again

Came here 4 years ago with this.....

Then replaced it with this.....

And now I'm back with this!

Cheers pal. BMW (320d) was mapped upto about 210bhp so it was quicker but oddly didn't feel quicker than the GTD. The power delivery, especially with the map meant it was so smooth and almost petrol like in its powers delivery. The GTD definitely feels more urgent when you floor it, even if it isn't. Seats were better in the BMW too. Overall the BMW felt more solid on the road. But on the other hand the GTD feels lighter, more nimble. Only had it a few days though so we shall see.

I'm thinking of getting the DTUK remap but they quote 230bhp. Seems like a big hike in power which is good I suppose but I want to look at some reviews first as a gain of that much mean reliability issues. Saying that they never but out what they quote anyway, lol. It's that or save the coin and keep saving for some 19's. Would have liked some kind of corner splitters like I had on the BMW but all I can find are the rather tacky looking (IMO) , over the top splitters at the moment. I did think of upgrading the stereo but I've bought it on a Pcp finance deal for three years and I can't be bothered forking out to remove it again.

Only been here for a year or so myself, but welcome back all the same!

Is the GTD the 183bhp engine?

I know Hurdy had some success with it in his Seat. 230 odd with a map rings a bell.

Already recognising a few names!

Looking around 230bhp with most maps for the GTD.
