Great work.

I've wanted to try the mk7 gear knob myself for a while but couldn't justify the cost of one in the uk, and stressed about having to cut the shaft. Looks like its a pretty straight forward mod that will update the interior.

I'll be watching your thread with interest for more updates

Nice one bud.

Thanks Rippers. This will be a slow one though. I've shelled out for a new DSLR and have holiday coming up. Plus the wife wants a new garden so money is tight at the moment.

I love the mkvii gear knob. I figure the car is 10 years old and any value it would have retained will be long gone before you know it, so screw it, i want the car how i want it! :)

no major updates. I've put a red GTI badge on the front as my original silver one was broken on one side. Thought i'd try red and see what it looks like. I am happy with it.

How are you getting on with the GFB DV? Much change in the throttle response as per the ad? How about noise?
Keeping an eye on this thread as yours is quite similar to where i want to go with mine

no issues at all. tbh i do not notice any difference in throttle response compared to the DV i had in already, but there was nothing wrong with the DV that i took out. i did this more for peace of mind especially as i knew i was getting the ecu re-mapped.

How does the boost feel on your car then?

Can you descirbe it well please over the gear ranges?

i.e. if you floor it in third gear from 1500rpm does a boost come out of nowhere after half a second and you're thrown back or is it a gradual bang from the second you floor it?

I haven't analysed it in great detail to be honest. I put my foot down and it goes  :driver:

Next time i'm out i'll pay more attention :D

Managed to sneak out in between meetings and put the lights on. They look so much better than the straight up red ones.

This was during... i had done the right and needed to the left/nearside

And this is after with both sides done :D

Probably also worth mentioning that i picked up some of those A4 exhaust tips. Not totally amazing IMO but they'll do until i get a proper exhaust :D  :driver:

I like the lights.

Look out for some H&R springs, they work well with OEM shocks and make the car handle really well. Not crash or harsh on the ride comfort and you'll get ride of that wheel arch gap  :happy2:

Got to get myself a set of the darker rear lights. They make such a difference to the car. Looks great on black. 100 quid is a good price too!

I can vouch for the H&Rs. Really nice drop, doesn't look too rakey, and like Rippers says, they work well with standard dampers. Although I would consider a set of uprated dampers at the same time for a complete solution.

I've had mine fitted for a year or so, maybe 7000 miles, and they do seem to accelerate wear on the dampers, which stands to reason, although It's still a decent ride. I'd say brand new oem dampers + H&R springs probably ride just as well as brand new uprated dampers + H&R springs, just that the oem dampers are having to work a bit harder, so they won't feel great for as long as the uprated set.

There's a newish set of dampers from VWR that sound excellent, as well as the usual Bilstein B8. The VWR dampers cost less if I remember right.

Anyway, rambling a bit... The lights look spot on mate. Very effective little mod
