Water ingress nearside boot
« on: July 12, 2016, 11:21:23 pm »
I've scoured the forum (as a new member #hangs head) and can't find the answer. I have a leak which is higher up than most common ones on here. It makes its way down the reverse screw which mounts the fuel flap solenoid and into the boot. Tail lights fine. I've tried a bit of sealant in the tailgate to body grommet but still not fixed. Pulled the seal in that corner at the top  which has the lip under so I can't see it leaking there. Where I think it is building up is in the panel behind the fuel flap solenoid to the rear most part of the pillar. Really scratching my head on this. Hopefully someone can help and the picture attached OK.

There's no picture.

Point out on the photo exactly where you think it is coming from.

The water leak, check the rubber sleeve where  the wires go into the boot

Ah good it worked. I filled that with sealant, perhaps not enough. I took out the top grommet from the boot lid also but in the rain, and when the water was getting in it looked bone dry. For good measure I put a little sealant round the boot lid to body grommet to create a seal also. Love my golf but this one niggly thing is really annoying me.

Sit inside the car with that trim removed and boot shut. Have a friend hose it down!

It's either a leak in the rubber surround or else through one of the rubber seals for the wiring

You might find the window washer pipe has fractured inside the grommet going to the hatch,  someone I know had this,  soaked his boot everytime he washed the back window?
