Which brand of water pump?
« on: July 19, 2016, 04:22:11 pm »
I need to buy a water pump as the timing belt kit I have ordered is without one.
Which brand is best and should I look for metal impellers only?

TIA

Oisin

Not a clue what brand vw use from the factory, every time I change one I either forget to look or can't see any stampings on it

Don't get one with a metal impeller. Manufacturers use plastic for a reason.

Buy genuine from VW, they are not that expensive on exchange for your old one. I've bought cheap on these engines and had to replace it as it leaked from new

I'd echo this.
Keep up with correct servicing and you'll never have a problem.

I believe the reason is, if the metal impeller seizes, it will strip the cambelt... bad

Earlier plastic impellers were prone to disintegrating, but this hasn't been an issue for a while, so go plastic.

Buy genuine,  not that expensive comparatively.
