Brake upgrade?
« on: July 23, 2016, 07:32:53 pm »
Can you upgrade just the front brakes or would it upset the balance? I was thinking of fitting r32 or possibly mk7 Performance Pack front brakes to my mk5.

Thanks

as long as the front brakes are bigger than the rears you'll get the brake bias in good favour

In an ideal world you'd fit 310mm R32/S3 rears as well - some people report the back end feeling a bit light under heavy braking with upgraded fronts and standard rears. Although they're apparently quite hard to get hold of.

Before I fitted bigger brakes to the rear (S3 calipers and discs) on my Stage 2+ Eddy a few times while under VERY heavy breaking the car definelty felt unbalanced. Once fitted the car felt slightly more planted. 90% of the time I could tell no difference.

Now there's a honest answer cause most people wouldn't apprise an item they've paid good money for other the typical quote "yer there the dogs bollicks".

I'm no expert.

Have a look at these tech paper from Stoptech US.

and

Declaration of interest - I have Stoptech ST41 Front BBK only on my Stg 2 Eddy; works well for me, but I don't track.

There's "some" nonsense in that last stop tech link and lots of marketing and sales "guff"

I've got 362mm front brakes and 282mm rears. Never had an issue with brake bias.

Can anyone tell me if the front calipers from Mk7 Golf R & the 340mm disks are a direct swap without brackets or spacers to the Mk5 (with Monza 2s) as an alternative to the R32/S3 upgrade?

Thanks in advance
