I'm more with the tone of your original post.....seems like unnecessary expense to me, to be taxing and insuring a weekend toy, aside from the initial purchase. Unless you're well minted, I'd save your money, or invest it in something that might bring a return. My old head on....The money I've lost on cars over the years....... I sound a bit like my dad when we went to view a well knackered TR6, when I was a young un. So glad I didn't buy it, even though I didn't think so at the time, ha ha (I did get one a bit later - and it was a much better buy).
A Classic car might be a different prospect - look how the Mercedes SL's have rocketed up (had a 350 SL in 1988 - £8k then 6 years old!) E46 M3's are are the way up now too, if you buy a low miler; etc - do a bit of research
