Anyone drive an Audi A1?
« on: August 15, 2016, 03:21:13 pm »
My girlfriend drives a mk5 golf and wants to change to a 2014 Audi A1 S-Line.

Does anyone have any experience with it?

I'd prefer the 1.2L petrol but the one she's looking at is a 1.6tdi

Don't do it! 1.6 TDi is nothing but mither. My dad's 1.6tdi mk6 golf EGR valve failed at 25000 miles at a cost of £800 to put right.

Wouldn't be keen on that tdi at all...

I've found a 1.2 petrol today direct from Audi that's one year older but the same price as the 1.6.

You certainly pay a premium going direct from Audi..

My dads' company car has the 1.6 tdi engine in it, and it's been faultless.. but nowhere as responsive to drive as the 1.9 PD it replaced. Much turbo lag!

My wife has the 1.4tfsi 120 bhp S Line A1 and had it since new in March 2013. It has done 17k faultless miles and they are lovely cars. It has averaged 40 mpg mainly very local town miles and easy gets into the high 50's on any run over 10 miles

Looking to sell it if you are interested as going for something bigger now the kids are growing and my Pirelli is getting on a bit

If you've driven 2012+ Polo Luke, you've basically driven an A1 - at least in my experience.

The steering is marginally lighter, but interior aside, it's as good as the same car. You'd be pushed to notice non subtle differences. The A1 engine range is better admittedly.
As MPS says, the 1.6 tdi can be hit and miss - the 2.0tdi 140ps is the engine to go for in that car. Surprisingly pacey and good economy return all in all @lukemk5gti

That's a real shame Luke. We will probably end up part exchanging it and would happily do a forum member a great deal. From my quick searches, we could get £11,250 from we buy any car, a little bit more on part exchange or north of £12,500 easily selling privately. I would happily let it go for c.£12k to keep us all happy. It even has its next service covered by the service deal we bought when new.

If you fancy a trip over let me know or if your search ends up fruitless. We are just south of leicester and will not advertise for another few weeks as new car due in October

The one we're looking at tonight is a 1.2 s-line 2012 60K miles for €16K

Pretty much on par with what you're asking by the time you convert to sterling and include VRT... Shame now you're so far away! I'll see what she says anyway tonight!

Ok no probs, just for your peace of mind we bought it new from Northampton Audi in April 2013 with a 4 year service pack. It is totally std spec in a sort of denim blue colour (can't remember the name) we bought it on a PCP but cleared the finance 18 months ago

Front alloys have a quite few kerb marks (blame the wife) but pretty spotless other than that

A1's are brilliant to drive. I drove a 1.4 tsi and it's an under cover little beast.
