Hi guys, I'm just in the process of upgrading the front component speakers in my Golf.
My car came from the factory with the 10 speakers as standard so I have the 4" Mids fitted along with the 6.5 bass units and obviously the tweeters in the mirror triangles. I've just been looking at my door cards in preparation for removing them on Saturday, and just noticed something a little strange. When I look at the grill for my 4" Mid range (near the window switches), the grill is fully drilled (perforated if you like). However, when I looked at the lower grill for the 6.5" Bass unit, most of the holes in the grill haven't been opened up, almost as if the moulding procedure didn't finish it too well. I've attached pictures below to explain what I mean.
Is everyone's car like this or just mine? Would there be any detriment to the sound (bass) in having them behind a grill that wasn't fully opened up?

When I install the speakers at the weekend and remove the door cards, should I finish the opening up of these holes with a small drill in my dremmel?
Thanks
Andrew
