To sell or not to sell
« on: August 17, 2016, 07:26:43 pm »
Had my gti for 9 years and still love it to bits . Dsg full vwsh and only got 30 thousand on the clock .
But I think it's about time to move on to a mk7 performance pack with all the bells on or a mk7R . Just can't decide if it's worth selling up and getting one or sod it and keep the mk5 ?

Is it quick enough? If not, go for a mk7 R.

If it's not power you're looking for, maybe spend a bit of time researching how you could improve a few bits. Ed30/R32 back end, Ed30 front, a nice stereo install, a remap (if you haven't already. And if you haven't, you're mad).

Well if you're feeling the itch, and you don't want to mod, maybe it's time for something new.

Personally if I was using the car that little then I wouldn't want to shell out a load of money on a car just for it to sit on the drive depreciating, just M2PW

If I was in the financial position to upgrade to a MK7 GTI I definitely would. But test drive one first to gauge just how much better they are and if it's worth the upgrade.

For a car that you drive on average 3300miles a year the depreciation on a MK7 of any sort would be hard to swallow for me personally.

Maybe a really nice Pirelli or ED30 which will basically never lose money at that mileage would be a good idea

A lot of good, well reasoned comments on here about losing loadsadollars if u switch. Your car has probably nearly bottomed out, but if you change you'll be on a downward spiral of massive depreciation. No doubt there'd be lots n lots of interest in buying yours, judging by recent comments on here about how rare it is to find decent, low mileage / low owners cars, but only you can decide.

I think you're in a 'no win' mindset... you'll regret keeping it, thinking it's dated, etc; yet you'll regret selling it / upgrading, thinking how much your new one is depreciating as each month goes by. :drinking:

Is your coolant level really high or is the tank just stained?

Oh and don't sell it! 30,000 is also amazingly low  :congrats:

IF you sell it you wont get what you should for it. Thats a gem at that kind of mileage.

Thanks lads I know it's a good one I've got it's a 06 reg but still gets loads of looks and comments etc but am really getting the bug for a new one . It will be treated the same as this one , never dirty and spends a lot of time in garage . I work on a building site so have another car for work , that's why mileage is low .
Wished I could keep the mk5 and get a new one but not got the space

Id upgrade to the mk7, I personally don't even think about depreciation of a car when buying as you never get what you buy it for anyway, go for the Mk7R and enjoy it!
